Myriad Harmony-Assistant &
MyOrgan / Hauptwerk-1 Chapter

To save writing, I intend to employ the following
abbreviations:
GOLD: Gold base soundbank of
Myriad. HA for Harmony-Assistant and Melody-Assistant
indifferently. It's your job to remember that Melody-Assistant is unaware of
scripts. HWK1 for the virtual organ Hauptwerk version 1, the
competitor of MyOrgan. MA for Melody-Assistant
. MO for MyOrgan and/or Hauptwerk-1
indifferently. ODF for the files describing the organ. ODF
is the acronym of Organ Definition File.
G.O: Great manual Pos:
positive manual
Recit = swell
manual

Do you intend to play or
compose organ music with Melody or Harmony-Assistant, without using the
instruments of the soundbank GoldBase, which often requires the complex writing
on several staves and the quasi obligatory use of very many rules? There
exists fortunately, for the users of PC, a very interesting alternative: the
virtual organ MyOrgan. The installation of this Midi peripheral can appear
complicated, but with the assistance of this tutorial, you will succes
easily and quickly. Then, when all is ready, it will be a true pleasure of
composing or being able to listen like in a concert of the works
of Bach, Couperin, Messian…

Among the many
advantages of this solution, let us announce: Exemption from payment for
MyOrgan software and its compatibility with its paying competitor Hauptwerk
I. Large variety of virtual organs accurately reproducing famous real
instruments, available on the Web some for free, others against payment. The
possibility of building its own instrument, by editing with a word
processer the definition file of an organ (ODF). Multiple possibilities of
playing the music with MyOrgan: Directly starting from HA or
MA, controlling MY like a Midi internal or external synthesizer.
It is this type of application which we will
approach in detail in this tutorial.
Without HA or MA, but with a Midi
sequencer, to read files midifiles (configured beforehand for a use with
MyOrgan). Playing of the organ "in live", without detectable latency time,
while practicing on a Midi keyboard . With good a réverb, one would believe
oneself playing in a cathedral. To play virtual organ with HA, the Gold
is not necessary.
Advantage compared to the organ stops available Gold : with Gold, you have to be satisfied with
the organ sounds provided by Myriad. These sounds are stored fixed, without
possibility of modifying them if one considers that necessary. With MO, each note of
each stop is a completely accessible independent Wav file. The number of stops is limited
only by the number of pipes in your possession.
Other
important advantage : when you listen with HA a piece of organ music using the Gold, you cannot change the
registration easily, and even, not at all in while reading, because the partition should
be modified (and sometimes also, the rules edited). With MO, click on the picture of a button to put
on/off service instantaneously a stop or a combination of stops.
| | | Simply click to switch a stop on/off, even while HA is playing |

MyOrgan is a Midi virtual instrument. Like any
Midi device, it waits to receive messages to function. If HA & MA can
send perfectly the "note-on, note-off" Midi messages used to produce notes, nothing was designed
to send to the desired moments the orders intended to change sound. That
will oblige us to use some rules. The users of HA (HA only)
will be lucky thanks to a script which will take care of all. For those
who only have MA, programming registration changes in the course of partition will be
less easy.
